How do I avoid having High Blood Pressure or Hypertension at 50yrs? Someone said and I quote "now am 50yrs but how do I avoid health issues like high blood pressure or hypertension in my life" If you look at this question carefully, you will noticed that the person who asked this question might probably have people around him have hypertension at the same age and he want to know how he can be very far from this heart diseases.

Another thing I see on this is that since high blood pressure and hypertension are hereditary, it may be that he is scared of inheriting high blood pressure at 50yrs.

Like I used to say that no one knows it all, I was made to know that hypertension or high blood pressure can happen at any age especially if the person just clocked 50 or over 50yrs in age. Anybody can have high BP not because of fatty foods, salt and sugary foods but due to problem in the blood vessels especially when it is blocked.

Meaning and Causes of High blood pressure: This is a health condition or problem that occur when there is blockage in the blood vessels and ability of the heart to pump blood to other part of the body. It is caused by a sudden pressure on the heart to pump more blood than it can take or supply.

How to avoid getting high blood pressure or hypertension at 50yrs and above? 

1. Losing weight: Out of the numerous ways of not having hypertension at 50 is through weight loss especially if are you are overweight or obese at that age. At first, I disagree with some doctors and heart expert that being overweight doesn't have anything to do with high blood pressure but I was made to know that being obese or overweight could also lead to other diseases like cardiac arrest, obesity, hypertension, stroke, etc.

So, the best thing to do in this situation is to find a weight loss plan that is effective and which works like dieting and exercises so as to remove excess fat from the body fast and easy.

2. Drinking More Water: At age 50 or above, you shouldn't ignore the fact that water is the best food and drink at that age if you are really serious about not having high blood pressure or hypertension. You don't need to drink more sugary food but water.

This is because water is a simple substance that increases metabolism and digestion. But with water, the digestion is rapid with elimination of fatty cells.

3. Shun Alcoholism: Another best recommendation on ways to avoid being hypertensive at 50yrs or above is to ensure you do away with beer, spirit, vodka and others. You should know that the end product of beer and alcohol according to chemistry is energy and sugar. And too much of sugar in the body result to problem with some organs like bile, pancreas and bile.

4. Eating more and more fruits and vegetables: Let remind ourselves on the questions again on How can I avoid getting diabetes at my age? Let me talk you if you care to know that at age 50 or if you are above, you need to feed more on veggies and fruits.

At this age, you should include more vegetables in your diet or eat more of it based on the fact that it contains minerals and vitamins that fight against diseases and some which correct some salt and minerals related issues.

5. Try to increase your physical activities: To increase your physical activities at 50yrs of age means you need to exercise your body more. Exercises like jogging, running, skipping, walking, speed walking, jumping, cycling, stretching, yoga, squatting etc all ensures blood are well circulated from the heart to other part of the body which is one of the best medicine to cure any type of diseases in the body as you clock age 50.

Regular exercises at this age help to prevent heart related diseases, stroke, brain issues and many more. if you don't have the time or energy to workout why not start with walking and later you progress into other exercises.

5. Sleep More: When you sleep very well, it means you are resting very well at the same time. Avoiding stress and sleeping very well is good for this age in which it makes you healthy while your nerve cells, brain cells, muscles are more relaxed.

Skipping sleep may result to issues like migraine, depression, stroke, diabetes and hypertension. All because you don't allow the body to rest. So, i recommend you sleep very well if you are over 50yrs of age.

6. Eat less of salt and sugar: Unless you are told to eat more, anyone at age 50 or over should try as much as possible to shun excess consumption of salt and sugar especially sugary drinks. This  is because the body is ageing and all the organs are also slow in action as well.

Salt contain a metal called sodium metal which causes pressure in the heart when consumed in excess.

7. Consult your Doctor More: One of the sure ways to stay healthy and free of hypertension or high blood pressure when you are at 50, early or late is to alwaya report any signs or symptoms you notice to your doctor.

Common signs of Hypertension includes heart pain, weakness, frequent urination, blurry vision, strains, and many more.

If you notice this symptoms, it is better you let your doctor know about it. This is one of the ways you can avoid having high blood pressure at that age. In summary, this means keeping medical appointment.
